Your business is starting to feel hard. You’ve reached what feels like your upper limit and you’re just not sure where to go next. Every day feels like you’re spinning around and not making progress. You know you have a viable business, but you can’t see the next step, or how to get out of the time-for-money trap.
You might be ready for some help. But you’ve already done all the courses, learned the tactics, put some foundations in place. You don’t need more of an education, you need some focused attention on your business, specifically.
An experienced (experienced being the operative word) business coach can look at your business, and you, and see where things have gone astray. They can also see where you can go, based on who you are and what assets you have.
So when should you hire a business coach, and when do you try to DIY your business?
There are five conditions that indicate you’re ready for some personalized focus on you and your business:
1. Time is of the essence. When you can’t (or don’t want to) wait any longer to make changes, then hiring focused help is the next right step. A coach should be able to get you on the right track far more quickly than DIY resources, and that includes making more money.
2. There are too many options and you can’t seem to make a decision. Business is a skill, just like learning anything else. So if you’re beating yourself up because you aren’t sure about the next step, give yourself a break - you aren’t expected to know. A business coach has the education and experience to be able to see your business clearly.
3. You’re all in on this business. If you are 100% committed to making this business a forever gig, don’t waste your time trying to DIY things. No one wants a Frankenbusiness! The cost of a business coach should be a drop in the bucket when considering the impact she will have on your business.
4. You want to improve in all areas, not just one. Courses and DIY resources tend to be quite focused and specific. If you believe your business needs more holistic attention across the board to make it hum, a coach will help you bring alignment to all areas of your business.
5. You need accountability and support. Sometimes you just need someone to keep you focused and honest, and giving you feedback as you progress. Entrepreneurship can be lonely and isolating, and can feel like you’re working inside a void. Your coach is there to be in your corner and keep you moving forward, even when things are tricky or hard.
Hiring a coach is nothing to be ashamed of, and does not mean you have failed on your own. You wouldn’t expect to learn a musical instrument on your own, or learn how to play a sport without some help. So why expect to be able to grow and scale your business on your own?
Even coaches hire coaches! In fact, don’t trust a coach who hasn’t hired their own. They should know the incredible value of getting the kind of support you need, at the time you need it.
Next video we’re going to talk about what to look for when hiring a coach to ensure you get the absolute right fit for your business and your style.
